Sweet friends: I did it!
I made it an entire month without drinking. And it wasn’t even hard (mostly because I had to work for an entire month straight and didn’t have a social life, but I did it!).
I can highly recommend this healthy lifestyle change if you’re not a social being in your twenties. Here are some benefits I’ve noticed:
I lost weight
This is the one I’m most excited about, obvi. I haven’t actually weighed myself in at least a year, but all my pants are looser and I’m fitting in smaller pants by the week. Good thing I have almost an entire suitcase full of pants that are too small for me from 1) when I was skinnier and 2) when I am too lazy to try on pants at the store and I invariably buy pants 2 sizes too small because I’m feeling sexi that day.
I can eat whatever I want
And I’m still losing weight. I’m serious. I’ve eaten like a dumpster baby this month. My diet has been so bad I consider candy a food group at this point. I blame it on the fact that I haven’t left the office and the snack game here is STRONG. The only difference is that I have a much smaller appetite now, so I eat less when I’m stuffing my face with delicious, unhealthy treats.
I think it also probably helps that I’m not lying on the couch once a weekend binge eating and feeling sorry for myself when I have the slightest hangover.
No more hangovers
Speaking of hangovers, I don’t miss those one single bit. As I’ve moved into my late twenties officially, I get some sort of hangover every time I drink alcohol. And it’s awful. But I haven’t had any headaches or anything for a month. And that is so so sexi.
I haven’t gotten sick
I am currently spending 16-20 hours a day in a petri dish, aka my office. Actually it’s worse than a petri dish because those germs just sit there chillin. This is like an aggressive attack on my immune system. People sneezing all over shit, then trying to high five me. No thanks Satan.
There’s been bronchitis, laryngitis, the common cold, flu, probably the plague and other things going around like wildfire. Normally I’m one of the first people to go down during flu season, but I’ve managed to stay healthy even with limited sleep, my candy diet and job stress out the ying yang. Hell yeah.
*knocks on wood furiously and prays to Jah I don’t get sick now
All in all, 10/10 would bang this diet again. I don’t even crave the sweet sweet juice. I’m going into the holidays, so I know I’ll be drinking at special occasions and such, but this 30 days has given me some perspective on how much better I feel when I don’t drink.
Namaste.
